Topic - Going On-line
Helen by Amy, Lester by John

Situation: Lester is discussing the company's Internet operations with Helen during a morning break.

Helen: Hi, Lester. How have you been?

Lester: I'm really bushed. I've been working on the B2C e-commerce project for about two months. You know, David Brenner in sales has come up with the idea of putting all our operations on-line.

Helen: What do you mean by that?

Lester: Well, clients and suppliers would be able to buy parts over the Internet.

Helen: They can already do that. They can also track the progress of an order, from production through shipping.

Lester: But he's picturing something much broader.

Helen: What's that?

Lester: He's saying we should combine our intranet with our Web site, thus giving customers direct access to every department.

Helen: Brilliant! And thus giving hackers access to every hard drive we have.

Lester: Well... We'd have passwords and so forth.

Helen: I think, it's not that simple. We need firewalls, and more. Ask the Web department. They'll go nuts at that suggestion.

Lester: Well, you see, he feels we don't really need a Web department.

Helen: Does he think sales can handle the Web site? That's ridiculous. I don't want to hear any more about this! Well, I gotta go. Catch you later.Have a good day!

Lester: You too, Bye.
