Title: Is Online Shopping Safe?
Content:
Ryan and Claire are surfing the Internet at Claire’s house.
Ryan: Oh, I just remember that Josh’s birthday is coming up. Have you gotten him a present yet?
Claire: No, it completed slipped my mind.
Ryan: We’d better run to the mall and do some shopping.
Claire: Why bother? We can do it right here without even leaving the house.
Ryan: Really? How can we do that?
Claire: Were you born yesterday? We can get him a present online.
Ryan: Online shopping? Are you sure that’s safe?
Claire: Of course it is. We just have to make sure the site is reputable.
Ryan: I don’t know… I’ve heard stories about people stealing your credit card numbers when you shop online.
Claire: That’s why you only go to sites you trust. And make sure they have encryption software that will keep your credit card information safe.
Ryan: Ok, that makes me feel better about it. But what’s so great about shopping online?
Claire: Well, it’s convenient, and it’s a lot easier to compare prices. Plus, you can usually get things cheaper if you look around online.
Ryan: But I had a friend who thought he was getting a TV in perfect condition. It turned out that is only worked for a week and then died.
Claire: Well, the same rules for shopping in the mall still apply here. You wouldn’t buy something without asking questions about it first.
Ryan: Can’t we just buy first and asking questions later?
Claire: I can see teaching you to be a savvy online shopper is going to be an uphill battle.
